Caponigro Exhibits Dreams Locked In Silver
A naturalist at heart, a musician in spirit, and a photographer by intuition, Paul Caponigro is regarded as one of the greatest landscape photographers of our time. Spanning a career of over fifty years, two Guggenheim Fellowships, and three National Endowment for the Arts grants, Mr. Caponigro's, prints reside in the collections of most major museums around the world. The Hallmark Museum of Contemporary Photography is pleased to present a special collection of Paul Caponigro's photographs, entitled, "Select Photographs: 1956 thru 2005", at its Gallery 56 location on the corner of 2nd Street and Avenue A, downtown Turners Falls, from September 25 through December 14. In this rare opportunity, the public is invited to get a glimpse of the genius of a master photographer who has studied with Minor White and rubbed elbows with Ansel Adams.Sensing the thread that holds all living things together, Paul Caponigro's photographs reveal the hidden forces underlying the beauty of physical phenomena. Fundraiser presented by Greenfield Center School to raise money for The Center for Self Reliance, Oxfam, the international hunger relief organization. Guests who buy tickets for the banquet will be randomly assigned to either a high-, middle-, or low-income tier and receive a corresponding meal. The 15 percent in the high-income tier are served a sumptuous meal. The 35 percent in the middle-income section eat a simple meal of rice and beans. The 50 percent in the low-income tier help themselves to small portions of rice and water. Guided through the evening by Center School student and teacher volunteers, the "guests" will experience and visualize how inequitably the
world's food is distributed. 100 people are expected to participate.
This educational Banquet is the culmination of a two-month school-wide study of food and hunger issues. Students of all ages (K-8) studied nutrition, volunteered at farms, held a food drive, studied systems of food production, charted data relating to the world's hunger problem, harvested vegetables from the school's garden and whenever possible, ate locally grown products. Food for the banquet will be donated by local businesses, including Mesa Verde, Green Field's Market, Foster's Super Market and more.
